Simon Kennedy MP is the Federal Member for Cook, representing communities across Sydney’s Sutherland Shire and southern suburbs. A member of the Liberal Party, he entered the House of Representatives after winning the Cook by-election in April 2024 and was re-elected at the 2025 federal election. Simon currently serves as Shadow Assistant Minister to the Leader of the Opposition and Shadow Assistant Minister for Finance, contributing to the Coalition’s work on economic management, government spending and national policy development.
Before entering Parliament, Simon studied law and commerce and built a career as a lawyer, business adviser and management consultant. He became a partner at the global consulting firm McKinsey & Company, where he worked with governments, business leaders and organisations on complex economic and social challenges, and later served as a partner at Australian advisory firm Banksia. In this Reddit AMA, Simon will answer questions about the Cook electorate, the economy, government finances, productivity, technology, local infrastructure and the issues shaping Australia’s future.
