US Midterms 2026: Trump’s Republican Rout and the Warning for Albanese

.

What do the 2026 US midterm election results mean for Anthony Albanese and Australian Labor? Democrats won control of the House and Senate as voters pushed back against high prices, Donald Trump’s tariffs, his immigration crackdown and the war with Iran.

This episode looks at why the Iran war became a political liability for Republicans and why it’s an awkward issue for Labor. The Albanese government publicly backed the opening US and Israeli strikes in February. Albanese has since called for the war to end and the Strait of Hormuz to reopen as disruptions to global fuel supplies put pressure on petrol prices.

There’s another warning for Australia. US voters backed dozens of local measures restricting data centres, and a proposed development near Dalby in regional Queensland is already raising questions about electricity, water and who pays for new infrastructure.

Could petrol prices and the backlash over AI data centres shape Australia’s next federal election? Share your view in the comments.
