Joining this Reddit AMA is Ged Kearney MP, the Labor Member for Cooper in Melbourne’s north. She is Assistant Minister for Social Services and Assistant Minister for the Prevention of Family Violence. Ged entered federal Parliament in 2018 after a career spent advocating for patients and workers. She worked as a nurse for 20 years, including in hospital and aged care settings, before becoming Federal Secretary of the Australian Nursing Federation and later President of the Australian Council of Trade Unions.
Ged previously served as Assistant Minister for Health and Aged Care, drawing on her nursing experience in that role. Across her career, she has advocated for stronger Medicare, workers’ rights, paid domestic violence leave and action on climate change. Today’s AMA is an opportunity to ask her about representing Cooper, her work in social services and family violence prevention, and the issues Australians want to put directly to a member of the government.
