Joining this Reddit AMA is Senator Charlotte Walker, a Labor senator for South Australia. Elected in 2025 on her 21st birthday, she became the youngest person ever elected to the Australian Senate. Charlotte grew up in Yankalilla on the Fleurieu Peninsula, where she played netball and worked at the local supermarket. That regional upbringing remains an important part of how she approaches representing South Australians.
After finishing school, Charlotte worked as an electorate officer for a South Australian MP. She later became an engagement officer with the Australian Services Union and was elected president of South Australian Young Labor in 2024. She brought those experiences to Parliament, with a particular interest in workers’ rights, regional communities and giving young people a voice in national decisions. This AMA is a chance to ask her about those issues, her path into politics and life as a new senator.
