Senator David Shoebridge is an Australian Greens Senator for New South Wales, elected to the Federal Parliament in 2022 after serving in the NSW Legislative Council from 2010 to 2022. A former solicitor and barrister, he brings a legal background and experience in state and local government to his parliamentary work. As at 9 December 2025, his work in the Senate includes scrutinising government decisions and advocating for public accountability, human rights and justice reform. His approach draws on years of questioning ministers, examining legislation and working with communities seeking changes to government policy.

His federal work covers issues including defence and foreign affairs, immigration, whistleblower protections, digital rights and cannabis law reform. Throughout 2025, he has campaigned against AUKUS, called for greater transparency in defence spending, and advocated for stronger protections for people who expose wrongdoing. He has also pressed for safeguards around artificial intelligence and greater accountability within the National Anti-Corruption Commission. For this Reddit AMA, Senator Shoebridge joins the community to answer questions about these priorities, his experiences in Parliament, and how the Senate can influence decisions affecting Australians’ lives.
