Senator Tammy Tyrrell is an Independent Senator for Tasmania who entered Federal Parliament following the 2022 election. Originally elected with the Jacqui Lambie Network, she left the party in March 2024 and, as at 1 December 2025, serves on the Senate crossbench. Before entering politics, she worked in agriculture and employment services, helping people experiencing long-term unemployment find training and work opportunities, before joining Jacqui Lambie’s office. That background gives her a practical perspective on the challenges facing workers, families and people trying to get back on their feet.
Tyrrell’s parliamentary work focuses on issues affecting Tasmanians, including housing, healthcare, household costs and the freight expenses facing local businesses and farmers. She has campaigned for greater supermarket competition in Tasmania and questioned the affordability of the proposed Macquarie Point stadium, arguing that public spending must be weighed against essential services. She describes her independent approach as working with anyone whose proposals benefit her state. For this Reddit AMA, Senator Tyrrell joins the community to answer questions about her priorities, life on the crossbench and how her experiences outside Parliament influence her decisions in Canberra.
