The mystery of Bruce Lehrmann

Bruce Lehrmann

.

We hear a lot in the media about Bruce Lehrmann, but very little is known about him.

While every minute detail of his alleged victim, Brittany Higgins, has been scrutinised in great detail in the media, not much is discussed about Lehrmann.

Before he rose to prominence as an alleged rapist, nobody had ever heard of him. What we do know is that he claims to have been a senior advisor for the Liberal Party, but what qualifications he had for this position is unknown.

He doesn’t appear to have had any political experience before obtaining this position, and we don’t even know when his employment commenced. For that matter, we don’t know any of his previous employment either.

Reports are that he failed to complete a degree at the Australian National University, but we don’t know when he allegedly studied there or what the degree was.

We don’t know what high school he went to, or even if he finished high school, where he grew up, who his parents are, whether he has any siblings, whether he has a partner, or whether he is married or single. We are not even sure what town he lives in.

He appears to be of only average intelligence, which is strange for a senior advisor in a major political party.

We do know that he was born in the US state of Texas, but we don’t know when he arrived in Australia, or even his exact birthdate. Prior to the Higgins’ allegation, he appears not to have existed at all.

Add to that the lengths to which the Liberal Party, Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Senator Linda Reynolds appear to have tried to protect him and seemingly cover up the alleged crime. The day after the rape allegedly occurred, Reynolds had her entire office steam cleaned, which would have destroyed any evidence if there was any. Reynolds office was the alleged crime scene.

Then The AFP, charged with investigating the alleged crime, leaked personal information about Higgins to Lehrmann’s defence lawyer and the media, which seems to have been intended to discredit Higgins.

The ACT Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) was alleged to have lied about his investigation into these leaks by the AFP. Then an investigation into the DPP was itself leaked to the media.

Lehrmann seems to have an almost unlimited supply of money, instigating or threatening a series of defamation suits against his alleged victim and any journalist who dares speak against him. Nobody knows where the money for these law suits is coming from.

The ordinary person could be excused for thinking that a massive cover up is going on, but why a nobody like Lehrmann warrants such actions is beyond comprehension.

What is clear is that the law enforcement agencies and courts have not been able to conduct proper investigations, hampered by people in powerful positions. The general public have lost confidence in these agencies.

Perhaps it is time for a Royal Commission into how this affair has been handled, in the hopes that confidence can be restored, and anybody who interfered in the investigations can be named and brought to justice.
