Yomiuri Shimbun: List of 10 candidates for Politburo Standing Committee

Japan’s Yomiuri Shimbun said yesterday that there will be 10 candidates for the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Politburo Standing Committee, but former Chongqing boss Bo Xilai is not in the list.

According to the paper’s report from Beijing, the 10 in the list are: Vice President Xi Jinping, Vice Premiers Li Keqiang and Wang Qishan, Director of CCP Propaganda Department Liu Yunshan, State Councilor Liu Yandong, Director of CCP Organization Department Li Yuanchao, Guangdong Party Secretary Wang Yang, Tianjing Party Secretary Zhang Gaoli, Chongqing Party Secretary Zhang Dejiang and Shanghai Party Secretary Yu Zhengsheng.

The report points out that Party and State leaders, including members of the Politburo Standing Committee, are to retire at the age of 68 according to the rules. Therefore, except for Xi Jinping and Li Keqiang, all the current members of the Committee, including Hu Jintao, are to retire.
