A Social Justice Plan for Bonner

.

Craig Hill, the Legalise Cannabis Party candidate for the federal electorate of Bonner, today announced a robust policy platform aimed at promoting social justice and equity across the community.

Recognising the diverse needs of Bonner’s residents, Craig is committed to implementing initiatives that address key areas such as education, employment, and community engagement.

Craig has a long history of advocating for social justice, including as a Local Organiser for Red Cross Calling, Chairman of an Aboriginal Reconciliation Group, TAFE Director of Studies on an Aboriginal Community, Manager of an Aboriginal Corporation, working with the homeless in Brisbane, and as a human rights campaigner in Australia, the USA and China.

He has also written articles on social justice that have been published in roughly 200 newspapers across Australia. These include on Centrelink, Aged Pension, NDIS, disability support, homelessness, Aboriginal affairs and youth crime.

His articles about human rights and politics in China have been cited in the New York Times, BBC, South China Morning Post, Philippines Star, Fox News and many other international publications.

Craig sees the following as areas of crucial importance to the Bonner electorate and the wider community:

Enhancing Educational Opportunities

Education is a cornerstone of social equity. Craig plans to advocate for increased funding to local schools, ensuring that students have access to quality resources and facilities. This initiative aims to reduce disparities and provide every child in Bonner with a fair start.

Promoting Inclusive Employment

With a workforce where cultural and creative occupations constitute 4% of employment, slightly below the national average of 4.2% , Craig is dedicated to fostering job creation strategies that support and expand these sectors. By investing in local industries and small businesses, the goal is to create a more inclusive and diverse job market.

Community Engagement and Representation

Named after Neville Bonner, Australia’s first Indigenous federal parliamentarian, the electorate carries a legacy of leadership and advocacy. Craig aims to honour this heritage by establishing advisory councils comprising representatives from various cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. These councils will ensure that all voices are heard in the policymaking process, fostering a community where everyone feels represented.

Addressing Cost of Living Challenges

Understanding the pressures of rising living costs, Craig proposes initiatives to alleviate financial burdens on families, including advocating for affordable housing projects and supporting policies that reduce everyday expenses.

Commitment to Action

“Social justice is not just an ideal; it’s a commitment to actionable change,” Craig said. “I am dedicated to implementing policies that ensure fairness, equity, and opportunity for every resident of Bonner.”

Craig invites community members to organise forums to discuss these initiatives further and collaborate on building a more just and equitable Bonner.
