Craig Hill is your Legalise Cannabis Party candidate for Bonner. He holds graduate and postgraduate qualifications in business, management and education. Professionally, Craig works as a teacher, corporate trainer, business consultant and journalist.
His support for easier access to medicinal cannabis stems from personal experience. Craig lives with PTSD after being taken hostage while teaching in a maximum-security prison. His belief in the legalisation of cannabis for recreational use is shaped by his time as a prison officer, where he witnessed firsthand the brutalisation of young “offenders” caught up in the justice system.
Craig is passionate about personal freedoms, social justice and evidence-based policy. He is dedicated to representing the voices of his community and advocating for national cannabis law reform. Living in the Bonner electorate, he is also deeply committed to addressing the local issues that matter most to residents.
Our Mission
The Legalise Cannabis Party stands for:
- Full Legalisation of cannabis for personal, medicinal, and industrial use.
. - Ending Criminalisation of responsible cannabis consumers.
. - Supporting Medical Patients with affordable, regulated access to medicinal cannabis.
. - Economic Growth through the cannabis industry, creating jobs and business opportunities in Queensland.
. - Sustainable Solutions, including hemp-based products for construction, textiles, and biofuels.
Our Plan for Bonner
If elected, Craig will work to:
- Introduce legislation to legalise and regulate cannabis use.
- Ensure access to affordable medicinal cannabis for those in need.
- Push for the expungement of criminal records related to minor cannabis offences.
- Support small businesses and farmers entering the hemp and cannabis industry.
- Promote hemp production for biofuels, textiles and construction.
- Advocate for public education campaigns to address stigma and misinformation.
But that’s just the beginning. Craig is committed to fighting for real investment in Bonner, something that has been missing in the past, including federal funding to assist the state government for:
- Addressing the cost-of-living crisis by tailoring solutions to Bonner’s specific needs while also advocating for broader federal reforms.
. - Addressing the deepening housing affordability crisis that is putting increasing pressure on families, young people, essential workers, and older Australians.
. - A hospital in Wynnum-Manly to meet the growing health needs of our community.
. - Improved primary and secondary school services in the district to give our kids the education they deserve.
. - Improved child-care and early education centres to accommodate the rising number of children requiring care and to alleviate pressure on existing facilities.
. - New TAFE campuses located in or near Bonner to expand local skills training and job opportunities. These would potentially be at Wynnum-Manly, Carindale and Capalaba (in an adjoining electorate).
. - A business advisory service and targeted federal funding for small to medium enterprises, the backbone of our economy.
. - Improved transport infrastructure, including upgrades to Wynnum Road and Old Cleveland Road, expansion of the M1, extension of the Cleveland rail line into Bonner, and construction of Bus Rapid Transport lanes.
. - More pedestrian footpaths, walking tracks and cycleways, which will lead to a healthier lifestyle in Bonner.
. - A vibrant entertainment precinct like South Bank – potentially located at Manly or Carindale – to create jobs, attract tourism, and offer families a space to enjoy life.
. - The construction of the 2032 Olympic Village in Bonner, given the large amount of Olympic events to be held in the electorate and our proximity to the two proposed sites for the main Olympic Stadium (Nathan and The Gabba). The village would house 16,000 athletes and would create 10-15,000 jobs. It could later provide affordable housing for 4-6,000 people.
