The people of Bonner deserve better access to quality vocational education and training. For too long, our local workforce has been held back by a lack of accessible TAFE facilities, forcing students to travel long distances or forego essential training altogether. It’s time for real investment in our community’s future.
TAFE plays a crucial role in skilling and reskilling workers for industries vital to Queensland’s economy, including construction, healthcare, aged care, and renewable energy. However, Bonner lacks a dedicated TAFE facility to adequately serve its growing population. To address this, we are calling for the establishment of new TAFE campuses in key locations across area.
The best locations for new TAFE campuses include:
- Wynnum-Manly: A rapidly expanding area with high demand for trades and marine-based training.
- Carindale: A central hub with strong transport links, ideal for business and IT-related training.
- Capalaba (adjoining electorate): A growing commercial and industrial precinct that could support apprenticeships in trades and logistics.
By investing in local TAFE facilities, we will provide young people, job seekers, and career changers with greater opportunities to gain the skills they need for secure, well-paying jobs—without the burden of long commutes or financial hardship.
We urge the state and federal governments to prioritise funding for these essential institutions in Bonner. Our community deserves an education system that meets the demands of the modern workforce and supports our local economy.
