The residents of Bonner deserve better access to healthcare, and the time to act is now. Our growing population is facing increasing pressure on already overburdened hospitals in surrounding areas, forcing locals to travel long distances for essential medical services. This is why we need a hospital right here in Bonner.
The lack of a hospital in Bonner means longer wait times, delayed emergency responses, and unnecessary strain on Brisbane’s existing healthcare system. Many residents are forced to travel to major hospitals in the city, such as the Princess Alexandra, Mater Hospital, Royal Brisbane, and Logan Hospitals, which are already stretched to capacity. This situation is not sustainable, and it is putting lives at risk.
A hospital in Bonner would provide critical emergency care, maternity services, specialist consultations, and ongoing medical treatment for local families, seniors, and vulnerable residents. Having a dedicated facility within the electorate would significantly improve health outcomes and reduce pressure on other hospitals.
The Best Location for a New Hospital
After careful consideration, I would propose that the new hospital be built in Wynnum West. This location is ideal due to its central position within the electorate, proximity to major roads, and accessibility for residents from across Bonner. Wynnum West is well-connected and would allow for efficient emergency transport and ease of access for patients and medical professionals alike.
Furthermore, this location would complement the existing healthcare facilities in the region, such as the Wynnum-Manly Community Health Centre, by expanding services and providing 24/7 emergency care. With strategic investment, we can ensure that families in Bonner no longer have to endure lengthy trips to receive urgent medical attention.
The state and federal governments need to prioritise funding for this much-needed facility. The people of Bonner should not have to wait any longer for the quality healthcare they deserve.
