- 1950 – Australia announces that it will send troops to the Korean War.
- 2003 – Australian artist and eight-time Archibald Prize winner Sir William Dargie dies.

- Day of National Significance (Barbados)
- Day of the National Rebellion (Cuba)
- Esperanto Day
- Independence Day (Liberia), celebrates the independence of Liberia from the American Colonization Society in 1847.
- Independence Day (Maldives), celebrates the independence of Maldives from the United Kingdom in 1965.
- Kargil Victory Day or Kargil Vijay Diwas (India)
