  • 1914 – Maurice Guillaux lands in Sydney – The first airmail delivery from Melbourne to Sydney is achieved.
  • 1928 – Russell Mockridge, Olympic gold medal winning cyclist, born in South Melbourne, Victoria.
  • 1983 – The first death attributable to AIDS occurred in Australia.
  • 1984 – The National Crime Authority is established.
  • 2005 – Amy Gillett (pictured), cyclist and rower, is killed in Germany in a road accident.

  • Nelson Mandela International Day
