Here are some of the events that happened on this day in Australian history. Please feel free to add others that you know of in the comments section.

  • 1792 – The Home Secretary authorises Governor Phillip to make land grants to civil and military officers.
  • 1874 – Crawford Vaughan, Premier of South Australia from 1915–1917, is born in Adelaide.
  • 1995 – The Australian Aboriginal Flag and the Torres Strait Islander Flag (pictured with Australian flag) are proclaimed as official Flags of Australia.
  • 2001 – British backpacker, Peter Falconio disappears in the Australian outback. Bradley Murdoch is later found guilty of his murder.

International Observances.

  • Bastille Day (France and dependencies)
  • International Non-Binary People’s Day
  • Republic Day (Iraq)
  • Victoria Day (Sweden). The birthday of Crown Princess Victoria is an official flag flying day in Sweden.
