ALF is a half-hour American television sitcom that originally ran on NBC from 1986 to 1990. The title character was Gordon Shumway, a friendly extraterrestrial nicknamed ALF (for Alien Life Form) who crash lands in the garage of the suburban middle class Tanner family.
The series was created by Paul Fusco, and stars Max Wright as father Willie Tanner, Anne Schedeen as mother Kate Tanner, and Andrea Elson and Benji Gregory as their children, Lynn and Brian Tanner. The character of ALF was portrayed by a puppet operated primarily by Fusco, or, in some instances, by dwarf actor Michu Meszaros wearing an ALF costume.
And of course there is Lucky the cat, who Alf believes would make a tasty snack.
In the early episodes, it is revealed that Alf’s home planet was destroyed by nuclear explosions, when Alf tries warn the President of the United States that the world is going to be destroyed. This results in America’s security forces raiding the Tanner’s house.
Much of the comedy reveals real scientific issues. But much is just plain good fun. This clip is a classic, with Alf doing a take off of Tom Cruise in “Risky Business”.
